Hi

Been running this great forum for half a year now and got about 8.000 members.
2 weeks ago. The site started to use up to 50% CPU power and 1-2 times a day it crashes and I just get "Service Unavaible"...

Anyone got a clue?
Could it be just one member that got do such a thing?

I'm open for any suggestions!

Are you using the access version?

If so then it maybe time to upgrade to MS SQL Server as Access is a flat based file database system and was never designed as the database backened for web sites that use large databases with allot of concurrent users.

Yes, I'm using the Access version.

SQL it is then. But not until HP gives us the server they promised to sponsor us with.

Do you think it's possible to run the SQL version on MS Data Engine instead of the whole package? (pretty expensive!). Not that I know anything on SQL...

Using the SQL version, will it still be possible to use the login-function on any page outside the forum and other functions you have made?

Thanks for a great forum.
Already bought a license....

MSDE only allows a limited number of connections so probally wouldn't work on a forum of your size.

If you wish to write a login page that works outside of the forum it wouldn't matter which database version you are using as long as the database connection is correct.

You can always look for shared space on a SQL Server, it would be a cheaper option, or there are plnty of hosts around that offer ASP hosting with MS SQL Server for as little as $6.99 a month. Check out own hosting http://www.webwiz.net/webhosting - http://www.webwiz.net/webhosting/
