For a while i was wondering why my cd burner would work... it had power but it was never recognized by the computer. today i opened up my computer to clean off the hard drive and i found out that i never connected the IDE cable! works like a charm now

one of my neighbours had a computer, with a CD/DVD ROM.. it was recognized in windows and we could eject the tray, so we thought all cables were plugged in, but it wouldn't read the CDs.. then we did a cable check just to be sure, and guess what.. the IDE was unplugged
the weird thing was that only with the power cable windows saw it was a cd/dvd rom there

I must admit sometimes things tend to work better when connected LOL. Just think what it is like when you remember this when you have spent ½ day stripping and assembling a laptop only to find the connection you have missed is under all the bitz you have just replaced AAAAAAAAHHHHH. A good coffee and a scream in a paper bag helps at that time not forgetting the beer to wash the day away at night.

I forgot to add, why scream into a paper bag? So you can seal the end up when finished pop it into a bin so no one knows of your frustration. If this don’t work hold your hands up and clam insanity.

so you mean that when your computer wont start you would prefer that your 1000 bucks CPU is burned instead of you forgot to insert your RAM?

The more technical you are, the more you tend to look for the fault in a complex way instead of checking the fuse 1st.

This was always common with the professor of electronics I used to work with. He always checked the software, electronics and voltages (none found) and then checked if he had plugged the dam thing in after.
