How do you like the look of my new design for drum-world version 2?

http://www.drum-world.com/news/news.asp - Link to preview

The site is simpler, cleaner.  This time round I'm relying more on content rather than lots of interesting boxes and colours.  Page size is abouta sixth of what it previously was, and cleaner coding allows faster page loads.

Wotcha think?

I like it . Good layout for an informational site. Easy to navigate. Easy to glance at a page and zoom in on the stuff you're interested in. News system is very nice. Did you write it yourself?

The only negative I'd note is the placement of the AdWords. Seems to make the page unbalanced. Might want to think of putting them vertically inder either the Nav Menu, or under the Right-side empty box. Or perhaps horizontally somewhere in the middle section.

The image at the top of the page is broken. Apart from that its a very clean and easy to navigate site

I thought I may find any drums pictures..

Why don't you move the ads column under the news column.. this will give more area, and will only make the page 4 columns.

Thanks guys, so far all I have had is positive comments which is good :)

Yeah I wrote the news system myself completely.  More buttons will appear down the left menu as I complete the sections.  Categories can be added/edited/removed, authors can be added into the news system, items can be updated and edited, you can choose which categories news appear on the homepage, everything you need really.  Pretty happy with it.

I don't really like horizontal adwords, I'm pretty happy where it is now.  I know it's kinda heavy, i'll try and change the colours to see if it helps.

I really am starting to think simple site design really is better in most aspects than heavy chunky designs.  Compare it to my current Drum-World and you'll see what I mean.

Tested in Mozilla and IE.  Should be fine in Opera.

I thought you were going to sell the site...

Anyways, it looks good, but... it needs a border or something to tie it together. There's no theme or overall look to it. However, it's better than my design  forsure.

Something that ties it together would really help. The navigation, etc., is easy, but some sort of "unity" would make a big difference.

I like the multi-colored scheme.

I play guitar... would be nice if we could jam sometime, although that will probably never happen.

You definately need something to tie it together as Bluefrog said.. and some more on at least the left side.. the ads could also have been placed somewhere else, for example under the menu

Heh, thatd be fun

I know what you mean by unity, but borders just don't work for it, can't get it to look nice.  Once there are more menu items in the left and right bar it will look a lot better and united.

i like it... especially how the pastel colors look and make it a nice calming site to look at. just one suggestion... the top of it looks a little bit empty... maybe you could put something on the left and right of the logo or extend it to make it look more full?
