Hello,

I just installed and configured version 7.9 (ms sql) and get the following error when anyone tries to activate a new membership.

"There is a problem activating your membership.

Please contact the Forum Administrator.

Return to the Discussion Forum"

I can go to the Membership Admin area and activate the user manually.

Any ideas why this would not be working?

Thanks

Could be a corrupted file try reuploading files again.

If you are using CDONTS mail component then sometimes it can corrupt emails, try using another email component.

Chaning to JMail from CDONTs seems to have resolved the problem.

Thanks

Me again,

We just did some testing here and 2 out of 10 people could not activate their account by using the link in the activation email.  We switched from CDONTs to JMail and that helped one person.

Any idea why or how to find out what the problem is?

Thanks

To work out more need more details:-

Is the link correct?
Are there spaces in the link?
Are the accounts atually activated?

A URL may also help.

It maybe the users are clicking the link twice, the actiavtion link will only work once.

Once the activation link has been clicked on and the account activated, clicking on the link again will show the error message you mention.

>Is the link correct?

Yes, it looks corret.

>Are there spaces in the link?

None.  The URL is all one string of text with know breaks.

>Are the accounts atually activated?

No.  I have to activate them manually from the Admin site.

>A URL may also help.

The server is behind the fire wall.  No public access yet.

>It maybe the users are clicking the link twice, the actiavtion link will only work once.

Checked with the users and they swear they only clicked the link once.

Thanks.

Are they using Hotmail accounts? There is a very well documented issues since M$ started framing email links inside the Hotmail/MSN window. There are ways to correct this with script and force the framing to "breakout".

I experience this on just about all people who register on my main forum and are using MSN/Hotmail.

It could be becuase your server is behind a firewall with no public access that you have this problem.

Hello All,

No to the Hotmail, we are using Outlook connected to our corporate Exchange server.

No to the firewall as the email server is internal, but has access to send and receive email externally.

Keep the suggestions coming.

Thanks
