There's obviously a code problem somewhere in the forum code itself. When members send an email via email_messenger.asp it goes right through to the recipient.  When people register on the board or try to do a resend of authenication, it fails (error message is generic, so don't have details), choking on the sending of the authentication email.

This is obviously not a corrupted file issue.   I can edit both locally and remotely, and the files  in all cases are identical, but I can't tell why the registration call to send_mail is failing.

Many of us are now stuck with using CDOSYS via our web host's servers, so this kind of a critical issue.

A correction to my last post... so I suppose this one should be added to that previous topic.

The email_messanger.asp fails as well when the person's account is using an email address that does not match the domain of the website's email system. Only those with email addresses from the forum's host domain can use email_messager.asp.  This may or may not be related to to authentication and re-send of authentication.  I haven't been able to look that deep as yet.

The problem here then is not in the code for the forum and CDOSYS does work for the authentication email as it is used on this site.

The problem is in the settings of the SMTP server that you are using.

Many web hosts to prevent spammers only allow email to be relayed onto local mail accounts.

Check with your hosting company as to the settings of their SMTP servers.

No, upon reseach the problem may still be in the code in that it is not providing all that is necessary for SMTP authentication.  It would seem my web host has things set up so than the account doing the sending must have its email username and password sent in the configuration.  WWF 7.9 currently does not have fields to enter this information in the email configuation and doesn't send them with the Send_Mail function.

Here is a pertinent article

Here is sample code linked in this article that pertains to this

Sorry my msitake, you didn't mention SMTP authentication in your previous posts, if you had I could have anwsered your query straight away, or a search would have given you your answer.

Web Wiz Forums, as mentioned in other posts on this subject, does not currently support SMTP authentication, although it will be in version 8 to be released in autumn 2004.

If you do a search of the forum, there are a few posts on how to edit the file send_mail_functions.asp to modify the file for some components to add SMTP authentication.

Yup, I tried it, and it is an issue, however it still didn't solve my problem. Waiting... and waiting... on my web host's tech support to get with it and solve the problem.

May be time to change hosts...  Thanks, boRg... I'll try to be more precise with details in the future
