If you, as moderator/admin, move a topic to another forum category it should be nice to have a indicator to where that post was moved.

Example: a user posts a question in a category named "A" but it would be better if he has posted it in category "B", so a admin moves to apropriate category. The posts "disapears" from "A" and the original poster thinks this post has been deleted. So he post the same question in "A" (Yes, he only sees forum "A").

My idea is to put something like: "(moved): original post title" in "A". When the user click on it and is redirectioned to this topic but it is now in "B", avoiding floods and repetitives posts.

Got it? Maybe a little confusing (sp?)...

So, how about the idea?

Yes that would be very nice.

I hope it gets in to beta 4

Well this is beta4 and it doesn't seem to be there. It would really be a nice feature that would relieve both the users and the admin from stress.

But would slow down the forum considerably and be difficult to program.

I would just add a few new fields to the database

  • Check box
  • moved_to

The checkbox would tell the forum that the post is moved and the other field would hold the forum id that it was moved to. That way even thow its moved would have the same ID it would just be in a difrent forum. When the page loads all it needs to do is put Moved: in front of the topic and link to the same ID in a difrent forum.

It may be more complicated then that but I don't think it would be. I don't see that slowing down the forum to much.

Maybe we can make a mod after the forum hits final.

But now that I think about it there would be some Security issues if you move the topic to a hidden or locked forum.

Also you will need to alter every page that referes to this, including all deletion pages, if you delete a forum or a ctaegory a post is moved from then all these pages also need updating otherwise the forum would crash. There are also quite a number of other things to consider. At a guess I would say around 20 to 30 files would need to be re-writenm to support this feature as well as new fields in the database.

Maybe you can use the move function present in this version but when you move it also create a "moved redirect topic" on the original forum......

The moved feature, with the redirect in the original forum has been written and will be in the next beta version.
