Could someone explain the difference between the following, 100 MB MySQL Database and 50MB SQL Server 2000. My host offers both packages.

Also i use web wiz forums and was wondering if the SQL version would run on 100 MB MySQL Database?

WWF will not run on MYSQL server, however it will run on MSSQL. MySQL does not support ASP aswell as MSSQL does. MySQL is considered faster but it has less features and no support for Stored Procedures.

If you use ASP you should really go for MSSQL, if you use PHP then go for MySQL as PHP has built in support for MySQL.

I use all ASP so it looks like MSSQL. Any ideas if WWF will be released to run on MySQL in the bear future or any plans to do so?

Please do a search regarding MySQL, this has been answered plenty of times.

On the help side...

MySQL will work very well with ASP. That is not a problem.

MySQL being faster... not sure with the current build... But I doubt it. MySQL has traditionally been used heavily for web applications, where MSSQL has been used for all manner of DB applications, online and offline.

MYSQL being a real RDBMS... I've heard that it's been upgraded, but dont' really care to look into the specifics at the moment. That could be false. MSSQL is a true RDBMS, which guarantees that your data will be referentially intact if you practise decent design.

I'd go for MSSQL because it is well supported, documented, reliable, and just nice to use. MySQL I find a bit obtuse and I absolutely hate the way it handles dates when used with ASP.

Just my 2 cents.

You'll find many more data base examples for ASP that reference MSSQL instead of MySQL by a wide margin.

the boss was joking.... the problem is... there was a problem here before because moderators had to reply to the same posts and same questions 100s of time, check this: http://forums.webwiz.net/forum_posts.asp?TID=11163&PN=2 - http://forums.webwiz.net/forum_posts.asp?TID=11 163&PN=2

Actually, as opposed to suspending the thread, it should be moved to the database discussion area. And, none of us really answered the question...

The difference is disk storage. Many hosts offer fixed storage limits for files and fixed storage for databases.

The main consideration that you mentioned would be whether you have an application that needs massive amounts of storage in the database (you can usually buy more).

mssql is more industry adopted on windows plattform then mysql..it is more professionally designed to compete with others such as Oracle rather than open source child play mysql.. MYsql is infact a good product to use and learn databases but mysql and asp just dont go well hand in hand with eaqch other

MSSQL will integrate with a lot of ready made ASP applications easily such as WWG forums..it also has wide support, tutorials and guides on MSDN and on the internet on many websites. u can find many mssql discussion to support u and and answer your questions in many different languages beside english

if u are using mssql, u can easily attach and deattach databases as well attach those u recovred from ur crashed server, etc etc ..as well many other facilities to import / export data and shedule services and stuff

mssql has stored procedure facility.. a huge plus if u ask me where as mysql has no built in support for procedures..stored procedures show real glory when database servers recive high traffic on regular basis such as web wiz guide database...

we are all discussin never ending thread here and still not reached to crashing the jodo host sql server
