I did a double-upgrade by moving from 7.7 to 7.9 and moved from Win2K to Win2k3.

Also, because I couldn't figure out how to easily import the SQL 2000 tables and stored procedures from 7.7 to 7.9 I just stopped the SQL service on both machines, then copied Forums_Data.MDF and Forums_Data.LDF from the c:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Data folder and restarted the service.

Now I am hoping that the database structure hasn't changed from 7.7 to 7.9.  The forums appear to be working OK, but I know there must be a better way of migrating.

Also, for all I know, I'm missing a new field in 7.9 since I didn't use the msSQL_server_setup.asp file to create/setup the 7.9 database.

Let me know if
a) I need to recreate my database to support new 7.9 fields
b) How I should migrate from one SQL Server to another in the future.

Thanks!

There are no database changes between the versions you are using.

Database changes (apart from stored procedures, sometimes) do not happen between minor versions. The next change to the database will be with version 8.0

Cool, you set my mind at ease then that the forums database has full integrity.

So when 8.0 comes out are you going to provide an upgrade wizard for existing 7.x installations to create appropriate database changes?

That all depends on how much spae time I get to work on the forum. There certainly won't be any for beta versions which will be released for testing purposes ONLY.
