somebody can tell me what does it mean "order by order_id desc"
the word desc?

it comes from:

 set maxOrderSet=outpostDB.Execute("select order_id from"_
& " baz_orders " & "order by order_id desc")

desc come from descendent. It sorts the records in descendent order. if you want the other way arround, put there asc (which comes from ascendent).

From Microsoft's SQL Books Online:

ASC

Specifies that the values in the specified column should be sorted in ascending order, from lowest value to highest value.

DESC

Specifies that the values in the specified column should be sorted in descending order, from highest value to lowest value.

Null values are treated as the lowest possible values.
