Good info if you use pop-ups or open-in-new-window; downloads where file extensions don't match content-type; and open windows via javascript.

I've been running it now for a few days and do not have problems really. The popup blocker works nice in IE. I have the feeling the property windows take a little longer to open now.

Does the pop-up blocker interfere with googles at all? Kind of like the way google allows me to override the bloxk for a page/site.

I don't have the google one installed here at work, but IE just gives you a little bar where you can either allow this time, or allow allways for this site etc. couldn't say if it clashes with others.

I have it installed now, looks like it doesn't interfere with google toolbar, just going to put the firewall through its paces at http://scan.sygate.com - http://scan.sygate.com

Mart,

Did you have to open up 80 to allow iis to run html/asp pages?

Well, took the plunge. On reboot it hung - lots of disk activity, then about a hour of nothing. Hit the reset switch and booted ok with SP 2 installed. Everything seems to chek out ok.

Didn't have to open up any ports in the firewall to allow local use of iis.

I can use IIS locally, it has  only blocked remote connections.

I've just downloaded SP2 over night and will give it a go today if I get some time spare when I don't need to use the PC as I imagine it will take sometime to install.

didn't take that long actually, most of the time was spent extracting files, after that it was just 20-30 mins installing

Kinda stinks that they don'y give you the chance anymore, not to backup old files. On a fresh system I really don't care and would rather skip the backup process.

I recall seeing something on one of the pages off of the initial ms link about integrating sp2 with a new install. Might have been talking about things that were "comming" though. Didn't apply to me, so I skipped it.

Only problem I found post-install is that windows update wants me to upgrade to their Radeon drivers that are older than the ones I have.

Gotta agree with Borg about making sure you've got plenty of time - based upon past experience installing MS OS's.

I'm gunna wait. Check this out

Microsoft has issued a list of nearly 50 software applications and games that may encounter problems with its Windows XP Service Pack 2 update.

These include SQL, Visual Studio .NET, Unreal, Norton, CuteFTP, and a ton others...

I don't feel like being a guinea pig =)

VS.NET, SQL Server, Norton and unreal work fine with SP2 on my PC

I think If you check out the page, that most of those problems are fixed by opening a port in the MS firewall which is now turned on by default. You probably already did that for your existing firewall.

I am using the MS Firewall, I might not have noticed because I don't use VS.NET or SQL Server over the internet
