Subject: Slow e-mail notification

Hi,

I've dun some searches and can't find an answer for this....

Recently e-mail notification of posts to me from my forums is taking up to 24 hrs or longer to reach me. It was fine up until a week ago and seems to be an intermittent problem.

For example there are new posts in my forums from yesterday which I've yet to recieve notification of and have no idea if or when I will.

Any ideas why this should suddenly start to occur and how to fix it ?

Cheers,

Chris.

The forum will send the email to the SMTP server straight away. Any delays from there will be as a result of the SMTP server.

If there are problems with the SMTP server or it is under heavy load it will place your email in a queue where it will wait until such time the email can be releayed on.

OK, cheers, so there's nothing wrong and nothing I can do except check with my ISP, that is, apart from changing the e-mail address and ISP ?

If you can try using a different SMTP server.

Contact your hosts and ask them to look at the SMTP server to see if there is any issues. It could be that someone is abusing the servers and sending loads of bulk emails thus overloading the mail server as it can only cope with sending so many emails at once.

OK, I'm waiting to hear back from my host re the SMTP server.

In the meantime, one thing I don't understand is that I'm still receiving forms from my site which use the same e-mail address as the forums yet these are recieved instantly, if there was a queue why do these get through and I'm still waiting for the forum posts from yesterday to arrive ?

The problem seems to have resolved itself for now, I've received the backlog of posts and am now receiving them immediately after posting.

Another forum member also had the same problem which was resolved at the same time.

This indicates that the problem wasn't with just my e-mail address and it's server but with the forum and it's server ?

Thanks for your help again Borg,

All the best,

Chris.

Chris.

Most mail servers handle local-address to local-address mail internally - no external network traffic.

Completrly off the topic of the topic you posted in, next time start a new topic.

There should be no LCID change on line 101, infact there should be nothing on line 101 so you must have edited the file yourself.

Try reuploading the original file again.
