Did you update you db from b3 to b4??

Beta 4 uses a new database with new fields, this is why it is recommeneded not to use beta version on live sites as there is no upgrade between beta versions.
Your only option will be to go through the version history file and try and create all the new fields and tables in your old database.

Just out of curiosity, what changes did you make to the upload portion of the forum...is this something that I can upload the pages from beta 3 -- or is it entirely revamped?

I ask because it's a royal pain contacting my host and having them change the tables for me (as I don't have a copy of EM).

Unless you know databases quite well then you can't, which is why the official line has and still is, don't use a beta version on a live web site.

Cool, thanks for the detailed change history - it's going to help me greatly ;)
One quick question:
Roughly how many more beta releases are currently planned? (Knowing as much about software development as I do, I'm deliberatly not asking for how long they're going to take )

At the moment I can't think of much else to add, not on a large scale so as soon as I can write the help files (which I have been trying to do for months but am avoiding it, each time I sit down to write any I get the erge to go down the pub) I will release an RC1 version, leave it a week for any bugs to come to light then release the full version after that.

But i do ! So, some mystake on the history.txt are present but it's really easy:
Just Copy/paste the new table from a blank database V7.B4 to the database V7.B3 (fields and data !!!!)
Add the fields like indicate the history.txt (except "moved_id", see my post...)
At any moment you can compare the fields from the blank V7.B4 database...
The paragraph 4,8 and 9 are for SQl only...
And that's run !

Very simple to update v3 to v4 when you know how to work with access
Add Following in tblAuthor: Avatar_tittle (Text)
Add Following in tblConfiguration: Upload_avatar (y/n) - Upload_avatar_path (text) - Upload_avatar_types (text) - Upload_avatar_size (num) - Reg_closed (y/n)
Add following in tblgroup: Custom_stars (text)
Change following in tblpoll: Rename Last_vote_ip to Author_ID and change (text) to (num)
Add following in tblTopic: Moved_ID (num) Type 0 in all empty fields
Create a new tlb named tblGuestName and don't forget to add it in Relations threadID to GuestID one to more
Seems to work pretty cool with me

If you read the version history file carefully it lists all the changes, including database changes and new field datatypes.
The reason for this error is also listed in the version hsitory file:-
Everypage is changed so that table and stored procedure prefixes are held in constents, this makes it simpler to setup multiple forums if they share one database.
This means that you need to replace every file from beta 3 to beta 4, including the common.asp files which are also listed many times in the version history as there are many changes in this file.

May I alos repeat:-
Beta versions are for TESTING ONLY. DO NOT USE ON A LIVE WEBSITE.
There is no upgrade availbale between beta versions, if you choose to run a beta version on a live web site, you may not be able to upgrade between versions and there will be issues and bugs with beta versions.

Borg,
I read carefully, and with orginal common.asp files I meant: before they where altered (databasepath) by me. So indeed all b4 files (form the zip )where uploaded. Strange thing is: with b3 wich uses the same database I can enter de admin area and it works fine.
My only question is: where do I find that strDBTable :-)

You need to replace the common.asp files that these variables are set in with the new common.asp files, beta 3 common.asp file will NOT work with beta 4.

Error Type: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers (0x80040E21) ODBC driver does not support the requested properties. /forumb4/forum_posts.asp, line 269
Could you post please, step-by-step instructions from beta 3->beta 4 migration?
Thank you!! Best wishes, Sergey

Sergey, Im assuming you are using the Access version. Try chaning the provider used to access the DB. Looks like one of the drivers listed for db access no longer supports all the needed functionality. I highly recomend using the Jet 4.0 driver if at all possible.

This is why you where warned about using the beta on a live site.

There are 2 common.asp's that you need to change if you renamed your database.

you need to replace every files, and that includes the Skin_file.inc as thats whats causing the error, also I think I've found an undocumented feature, the register.asp doesn't seem to work, but if I replace it with the Beta 3 version it does...go figure...

A sugestion for final release. not sure if it was covered earlier in other versions but here goes. You have the option of batch locking or deleteing topics with various options. Would it be possible to add a batch archive feature to archive features to a archive area with the same options as the batch lock feature. Just a thought.

Hey BoRg i just had an idea,
I thought that i'm always spending hours going through each page setting borders to 0 for my site, as i have a shaded table title background pic, so i cant just put the border color to my title color and changing it to the bg color puts gaps in the title bar I thought maybe for the next/final release there could be an option in the skin file to switch borders on or off or to choose there size, ould this be possible?

First of all Borg, top job.
Regarding upgrading from b3 to b4. What about importing the records from the b3 tables into the b4 tables? Then we wouldn't have to change any fields etc. Just an idea from the top of my tired head (my excuse in case it's a crap idea!)

Hi Guys/Gals I've found some more fields that need adding to B3 as follows:
ADD
add field Real_Name to tblAuthor (text)
Amend
put Uploads into Upload_Avatar_path
Put gif;jpg;jpeg;png to Upload_Avatar_Types
Put 35 in Upload_Avatar_Size
this should sort out any problems displaying profiles and displaying the uploads config page.

It is in the database, the simplest way is to copy and paste the new tblConfiguration table across to your old b3 database, remebering to also slect to copy all data.

I use FP so your program might work difrent but look at the deletecookies.asp and copy the cookie name and use the find feature from the edit menu and look in all pages. it sould work if you change all of the instances. Might be alot thow.

In the Forum Configuration Link in the admin menu, the Display Moderator radial is ALWAYS selected whether you have it enabled or not. It seems like there isn't a check in place for it.

Add another to the list of the Amazed and Greatful. I am looking very forward to the final release and plan to donate $100. to the cause when V7 is ready.
I do have one request that I think would be a nice addition to the script. Would it be possible to add a GOTO function that would allow the admin to add URL's to the database and assign a particular keyword that would allow visitors to enter the keyword and go direclty to that section of the forum.
EX: If the admin entered the url http://www.mywebsite.com/forum/bobforum - www.mywebsite.com/forum/bobforum ... and assinged the keyword bob a visitor could enter the keyword bob in a search field and go directly to the bob section of the forum.
Keep up the great work

i did a clean install of version 7 b4, but i still encounter this problem when i try to upload avatars from my harddisk.
Server object error 'ASP 0177 : 800401f3'
Server.CreateObject Failed
/indobc/forum/functions/functions_upload.asp, line 82
Invalid ProgID. For additional information specific to this message please visit the Microsoft Online Support site located at: http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect.asp - http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect.asp .
Also, i can't delete and suspend member at the admin menu. There's no option/command button to do so.
Anybody has the solution?

what do you mean?
i did a clean install, not an upgrade, and yes, i have uploaded everything, but the error still comes up

the upload feature uses a server component to process all of the hardcore asp code to do the work. search this forum and you will find your answers and figure out if your webhost supports any of these.

Try using this asp script originally mod'ed and posted by str9dog:
http://www.rexpage.com/files/testobjects.zip - www.rexpage.com/files/testobjects.zip
Just download, unzip, and upload the asp page to your webserver. Point your browser to it and voila!

cose in version 6.4 i always lost threads when i moved them
and in beta 4 i see on this site that if ya move a thread - just stays in the forum it was posted to - but wit ha "Moved:" and a new lil "Moved Icon" why doesnt it ACCTUALLY moe the thread?

it does move the thread. what you will see in the original forum where it was placed is a link to the new location in the other forum where you placed it.

umm yeah - but still
if you move the topic - you move it for a reason - why move it then, why not leave it in the same place? it just seems a lil silly to me

well. it is not silly. just look at this forum right here. sometimes a users posts a message for lets say the webwiz news application and posts it in the forum for the webwiz forum. then it has to be moved to the correct forum for clarity. when you move the post it just leaves a link to the new location so that you still can follow the thread of that post

wot i mean is - if you move the post you move it for a reason
that reason being you dont want it in the forum it was posted - and i wouldnt want it to stay in the forum it was posted - so id move it - ya get me?

i know what you ment, and mabey it is something for -Borg- to change in the future version, and let people make the decission if they want to leave a link behind or not.

Just wondering... what happens if you delete out the 'link' to the topic which is left in the forum it was deleted from... Does it delete the link or both the link and the actual topic?

I think is is in the post/topic table in the database, it hase a field with move in the name, when is is moved is isn't Zero (0) so make a mod whit set this value to zero once a week or when the post is 3 day old or what you like
You can also change the move topic.asp page not to update the move field, leave is zero
For this is stay with version B3 ( and because of the emoticons to the left 15 hits to mutch to my webserver)
so I don't have the B4 version here and can't tell you the exact names of the pages and field / tables but sure you will find it.

These might be possible bugs I've noticed in beta 4 (not sure if carries over into beta 5 since It's not available to test on our own sites yet). Let it be said I upgraded from beta3 DB to beta4 DB so this may be why these errors occur, I am not sure I just wanted to mention them.
When WYSIWYG HTML Editor for Windows IE 5+ is not enabled three of the smileys don't work correctly (arent formatted into graphics) hug, pinch and clap.
In Database tblPoll Author_ID field does not always report correct author ID

Can someone tell me how the polls work? If a user is a member then does it store that the user has voted ina particular poll in the database or is it still just a client-side cookie (like for a guest) i.e. v.easy to make multiple votes?

Any ideas?

First (and kind of obvious) did you use the correct password?
Second, does the database have write permissions?

I'm using the administrator login ID and the PW that is published in the setup docs.
Here is the exact error message:
Sorry, only members with sufficient permission can access this page.
I have double checked the db directory and file rights to ensure that they have the correct permissions.
I am able to run and view the forum and everythings seems to be ok. Just can't login as administrator.
[edit] It will let me login as administrator and shows that I'm logged in as administrator, but it will not let me perform any administrator tasks.

Have you tried going into admin/default.asp and logging in---then making sure the forum setup is correct?
Also, this forum uses cookies. Make sure your browser is not blocking them.

forum/admin/default.asp is where I'm having the problem with the admin rights.
I am able to log in as administrator and I can even perform serveral of the functions on the admin page, however I am unable to use the "Admin Menu" or the "Forum Admin" links without getting the permissions error message.
I give up

Don't give up yet---Make a main post that is not under this thread (since this thread is rather long). You will get help as I'm not sure what the problem is off hand.
This forum rocks dude. Your problem is something simple.
