I run a large WWF with dedicated web and sql servers (sql 2000).  i'm wondering if anyone has some pointers for optimal settings on the server side, or if there is anything i can do to optimize its performance as it suffers pretty bad during the morning and all evening..

thank you!

Are you sure it is the SQL sever and not the web server or bandwidth troubles?

The problem with sql and iis on the same machine are that they both fight over processor and memory, finding a good middle marker is the key and don't let sql get all the memory in the server settings. I looked at your forum and it is fairly large with quite a few members being online (at this time at least). It has been mentioned a few times before that this forum is not very optimized for sql server, thus it uses sproc's there is definately some code optimization you could do. On the SQL Server side you can play around with the Indexes, too many indexes CAN make a db slow, as well you can disable your transaction log as you may not use it (that is your call). The database growth(partitioning) can also be adjusted, on a busy db, with a lot of updates you may want to increase it to more then the default 10%
