This error can happen for several reasons all to do with connecting to the MS SQL Server.

It could be that there are network problems that prevent connecting to the server running SQL Server. It could be rebooting, or the MS SQL Server service is restarting, etc.

Maybe the other programs are not used enough to notice the error or they are not using TCP/IP across a network to connect to the server.

This error IS coursed by a problem connecting to the MS SQL Server, it happens with nearly all SQL Servers, especially in a shared evironment for many reasons.

Try looking also on Microsofts MSDN site to see if you can find anything else that can help on this.
