Anyone have any opinions on what type of website i could create that would be future oriented, modern and very useful in a particular industry? It is for my final year project. I would be creating it using ASP.NET with a back end SQL Server.

You may want to check out http://bcis.wcu.edu/clapper/cis340/Module_6.asp - http://bcis.wcu.edu/clapper/cis340/Module_6.asp . This is a college professor's web site. He teaches ASP.Net. You might want to consider developing a web site for a made up online store.
