Hey,
This may be run of the mill stuff for you but i am new to .asp, i have installed IIS and got it working (can see my test .html page). But cannot see anything but this error message when i try to see a .asp page.
Can anyone shed some basic english on this for me please?? know it's probably something really obvious but i've looked at the screen for to long now... I'm sure it's in my settings but where??
Any help i appreciate thanks, Ian B

Check the FAQ section. Or do a search before you post. Already been asked a bunch of times on the forums.

p.s. Welcome to the forums.

I'll help ya out since this provides a way to promote a better browser anyway while helping out a newbie.

You need to turn off friendly error messages in your browser, which will give you a more detailed message.

The best way to do this is to simply use a better browser, especially for development: [ http://www.spreadfirefox.com/?q=affiliates&id=11009&t=61 - Firefox ]. Then add the following [ http://update.mozilla.org/extensions/showlist.php?category=Developer%20Tools - extensions ] just for increased features:

  • Web Developer
  • HTML Validator
  • Javascript Debugger (default debugging is far better than IE anyway)

If you insist upon using IE (should be only for testing look), then do the following in IE 6.x:
  • Click Tools...Options
  • Click the Advanced Tab
  • Scroll down and remove the check from "show friendly messages".

Done that i like Firefox nice one. I get an eror message, say for arguements sake i put a tag like <%= Time%> in for asp. The error would be 'error type: 'time is undefined' test.asp line 9
Why has this not worked nothing to do with the web server but the code???

Thanks Ian B
