Hi

I'm just starting to troubleshoot a message I got from a member in one of my forums. Has anyone heard of a similar situation?

I can't seem to get the "Post A Reply" or "Post New Topic" to work on IE so I got this thought today after 3 days of messing with it, "Maybe Netscape will work!" DOH! so now I can use netscape for GT forums and post my drivel again! Oh Boy! right?
If any of you can tell me how to fix IE please do. I have deleted all my cookies and temp files, etc. No help there. I can read all posts and even in "Post New Topic" I can enter subject just no text. In Private Messenger I can enter to whom etc. but no text. Weird, huh?
Oh well, I can use Netscape for the Thug life. No problem there really.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Looks like you may have lost or corrupted a file.

Reupload the files again, also you could alternativly turn off the IE WYSIWYG Editor from the admin area.

Thanks for the reply B. but the problem is isolated to one user only so I don't think it's an issue of a corrupt file on the server.

Maybe his IE is corrupted (just guessing), tell him to try repairing IE.

<edit> or most likely his security settings are too high........javascript most be enabled in order to be able to post...

Ive ran into that same problem with a few select users.  I told them to change their security settings, delete temp files, and reset cookies.  Nothing worked.  They had the latest IE version as well.  The only solution which worked was downloading Netscape communicator.

I do not think it's a problem with the forum, though.  I believe it's a bug within IE itself.  Over the years I have always found Netscape to run Java and javascript much better than IE (Probably because they invented it, so they should run it better).  Probably just one of those things you have to live with.

If you do find a solution please post it here as I would be very interested to see just what you did.

Sometimes when IE gets corrupted the IE built in Active X Rich Text Editor used for the WYSIWYG doesn't work or fire up.

If this is the case then tell your users to edit their profile and turn off the WYSIWYG editor from in there. They will then have a standard text box to post messages with to the forum.

Also make sure they have JavaScript enabled.
