My university has a really nice system up where they give you a virus scanner, if it detects a virus it sends a message back to the network and cuts you off from the Internet.

This is really handly when downloading emails from one of my publicly listed addresses!

If I downloaded for example AVG, and ran that and it detected a virus, it wouldn't cut me off from the network would it?

Most AV scanners let you use their api's... thus you could make a simple program that handled the 'Virus Detected' event of your AV scanner and then disabled the internet connection on the pc

Most corporate AV licenses include additional api hooks.
