hi all

i'm currently running the 6.28 version of the forum, with MSSQL, in hebrew, but i'm not the person who installed it in the first place, so i'm not experienced regarding forum setup.

i want to upgrade to the lastest version without losing my members.  as i understand, i need to download the new version and upload it to the hosting server, and use my current database as the database for the new forum.

my question: will that work, or are there database fields needed in the latest version which do not exist in 6.28 and thus problems will arise?  do i need to manually add anything to the old DB before using it for the new forum?

thank you

Version 6.x and 7.x databases are completely different.

However, there is a tool available on the forums download page that will migrate the data from an old 6.x to a 7.x database.

if you are referring to "Version 6 to 7.x Access Database Migration Tool", it seems that it's for Access version.  what about SQL to SQL?

It will be more difficult as you will need to follow the version history file and make all the changes by hand in the database.

i see.  do you have an estimate on how different the DBs are between the versions?  i am trying to decide wether to keep my DB and make the necessary changes, or lose the DB and start all over again with the 7.9 version.
