Hi. I live in Easter Europe and I need to find a cheap way to receive money from US. I did a google search and I found a lot of online services but I don't know what to choose. I want a fast service and also a mobile one so that I can withdraw my money regardless the city or country I travel. Thank you very much and I appreciate any help. Wink

www.paypal.com is what most people seem to use.

It could be, but it has a limited coverage and my country isn't listed there. So, I can't use it. :( I forgot to mention that I need a free service because my funds are limited unfortunately.

You won't get money transfer services for free, not even banks do that.

I am sorry. I meant a free to signup service.

I know several people who use ikobo. You get an atm card (Visa debit card) for withdrawing the money. I believe you're limited to withdrawing $350 US per day.

I changed to ikobo recently because their rates are really low. So far i have no complaints with them.

Hello everyone. I'm new here (obviously) and I noticed you were discussing money transfers service. I'm also interested in this matter and I thought I'd join you.

Regarding what's been discussed here, one would be tempted to recommend paypal on the sot, but once you take into consideration the fat that it is not available for everyone and the bad press they keep getting related to frauds and all of that... you know what I mean.

Of course this is just me talking, I for one would go for something let's say less popular than them but which is more suitable for your personal needs.

I think paypal gets bad press every now and then purely because it is the largest service of its kind online, every service of this type will have it's disputes every now and then.  Fraudsters are bound to go for the biggest service anyway.

You're right, but I think it's also because they tend to act like a bank when in fact they aren't and there has also been an investigation by the FBI regarding paypal, if I'm not mistaking (something about frauds or something like that).

ikobo, 2checkout, and all the rest have had problems in the past as well. In the past year or so, many have improved quite a bit.
Paypal and ikobo are amoing the group that have come a long way.

Thank you very much. I went on their homepage and their offer looks very interesting. I ahave another question for you, considering the fact that I really need to get my money fast and from any European location I might be in that moment. What is the iKard?

I-Kard is a Visa debit card. It's good for up to the amount in your account. You can use up to that limit it like a credit card at any merchant that accepts Visa cards. You can also use it to withdraw money from your account from any bank ATM that supports Visa cards.

Wow. This means that I can use it from any local ATM machine ? Or do you mean worldwide ? Tongue

Any ATM anywhere that supports Visa Plus. If you see the Visa logo on the ATM, you can use it there.

One thing to note is that Visa has an active anti-fraud group that may question using the card in foreign countries. It saves time and trouble if you contact them ahead of time before traveling and/or give them a list of countries where you're likely to use the card.

I have a cousin who lives in Canada and went to visit Russia where she started to use her cards. They got blocked until Visa contacted someone at the home phone number who told them she was in Russia.

This is the greatest news I ever heard because this means that I can withdraw my money while I am travelling. How fast are their transfers and what do you think about their personal account fee (3%+5$ for more than 60$ and 3$ for less than 60$) ?

According to their site, as soon as the sender credit card clears, the funds should be available to your account.

As far as the charges go, I don't know. Probably depends upon the country you're in. Also don't know if there's any local/government currency exchange fees for this type of transaction. Ikobo also has a few little charges.
  • Delivery fees for the card - vary by country
  • Monthly account fee - $1
  • ATM Withdrawal fee - $2 (the bank you withdraw from may have an addional atm fee)

Well, this sounds pretty good, you've made curios on this matter and I looked it up and apparently ikobo charges 2.99% per transaction without any other fees (apart from those you've mentioned, but they're related to the visa card). This could prove to be a good addition to the payment solutions I'm offering for my customers. Will look some more into this.

Ok. So I see. I just discovered there are a number of countries including Romania where the iKard delivery is free. :D And the 1$ fee doesn't seem too much, does it ? Also, this posibility of beeing mobile and in the same time to be able to withdraw your funds from virtually anywhere worths the 2$ withdrawal fee. I think I am going to signup with them tomorrow. Thank you everybody.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I've read also. Although the problems weren't related to chargebacks... I could be wrong of course. The important thing is that it seems to be ok now and as some say, growing in popularity. Hope so!

Well, I have considered western union for transferring some money, but once I realized what their fees are, I suddenly didn't feel the need to do it anymore. Anyway, I need something with credit card processing capabilities, does WU do that?

I won't recommend you WU because as you said they have very high fees and they don't do cc processing. So, what's the point ? Disapprove

Today I signed up with ikobo. It was not hard, I just had to fill some textboxes with my info. Also I sent them a copy of my ID and one utility bill. They confirmed the documents arrival and now my account is fully operating. How can I receive money in my account and when do I get the iKard?

Well, congratulations on your account. I myself am still considering whether I should sign up or not, but since you're saying it's working fine, I might just do it one of these days. About your question, I wouldn't know to answer them... maybe I will once I decide to use them. Time will tel. Thanks for the updates anyway, please keep them coming. Wink

It's only up to you if you decide to use ikobo or not. In both cases, I will try to post here about my experience with ikobo.

@dpyers: How long does iKard usually takes to arrive ? Question

I found an interesting article. It's rather new and it's about ikobo. I have to recognize that if until now I had my doubts about ikobo, this article changed my point of view. You can find it http://www.wilsonweb.com/art/transact/ikobo-payment.htm

Hello everyone! I am new to this site, I have found this thread as was looking for the best service I can use to receive/send money online. Now I doubt between PayPal and iKobo, as it seems to me their fees are the lowest. PayPal is a good service because it has much more popularity, but it’s countries coverage is very low. Ikobo’s countries coverage is big enough. May be someone who used both of these services will advise something? Thank you in advance
