I have recently formatted my Hard disk. Now I am trying to load windows 98 on it. But when I try to run setup, the message comes up

"setup cannot find a high memory manager and cannot continue"

Please advise what may be the reason.

This is going back a little, but if I recall correctly, you need to have emm386.sys and/or himem.sys specifed in your config.sys or autoexec.bat. I believe those were part of a dos install that 98 looks for, then replaces with it's own versions.

After you format the HD, you need to install DOS before win98 - I think - lol.

I do OS and software installation for a living. Of course, I'm lazy now and use imaging to install everything including apps in under 10 mins. Wink

However, to install '98 the "manual" way, I always used a '98 boot floppy which loads everything you need into memory. Boot it with CD-Rom support, and then just navigate to the CD setup directory though the DOS prompt and install away.
