I am a newly ASP user. This is the first time use this forum without ASP knowledge. Ouch

I did follow the instructions to up load all files into host webspace. I went to /forum/admin/index.asp.  I can see Admin login registration.  But somehow I cannot see the Unique Security Code.  Why it happen ? Cry

I suppose running /forum/default.asp should be able to see forum setup.  But I just keep getting error:

Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0126'
Include file not found
/forum/common.asp, line 2
The include file 'language_files/RTE_language_file_inc.asp' was not found.

I did checked this directory but find no file mention above.  Really helpless.  Anyone can tell me what I should do ? Cry

I've looked into this and it looks like the Lite version of web wiz forums zip file is corrupted.

If you are not using a free web host you should download and run the one of the full versions of web wiz forums that has all the features.

For the time being the Lite version for free web servers is going to be removed from this site.

I've fixed the problem now with the Lite version.

It seems that somehow in the last update a few days ago to make the Lite version compatiable with the 1asphost seververs that have disabled the ADO.Stream object that some of the version 8.0 aplpha 1 files got mixed in with the zip file.

I'm still trying to workout how that happened.

Anyway, the Lite version has now been fixed if you want to download the latest zip file.

Thanks your help.  I will test drive the latest Lite version again.  I am currently running under 1asphost free host server.  If I got any problems arise, will post under this thread only.

Do you have such kind of features to ban names to register ?  If so, can you ban such names in Chinese too ?

e.g. administrator is default logon.

I don't want someone logon as Administrator, admin, Admin, author.  Or do I need to register those names I mentioned above ?

Thanks a million.

Error occur when trying to configure the Lite version 7.9a

After create Forum name, then Select Forum Category and type in Forum Details and their Generic Forum Permissions.  When click "Submit Forum Details", an error pop out:

ADODB.Recordset error '800a0cc1'
Item cannot be found in the collection corresponding to the requested name or ordinal.
forum/admin/forum_details.asp, line 171

Anyone got the similar error message when using this version ? Confused

The problem with free web hosts is that they give you the web space as a bit of a taster with many items disabled in the hope that if you want to run anything a bit more complex, like forum software, you will upgrade to a paid hosting account.

This means that it is a constent battle with free web hosts as they keep disabling items that allow this forum to run, this is a big problem as it means I am constently having to change the Lite version and disable more features in order to get it to run on free web hosts.

If you can, go for a paid hosting account and use the full version, where you won't encounter such problems.

I totally agree with you.  Big smile

The use of free hosting account is to test drive your Web Wiz Forums before actual commit to use your full version. Smile

Also I would like my staff to try if this is better than PHPBB.  I personally prefer your forum as it is simple and not those fancy settings.  But I need to setup a lite version for them test drive before using full version. Ouch

As you know some host company only provide one support.  Either using PHP or ASP.  But lack of host companies support of both.  Making a good choice really hard. Confused

Could you try your best to fix the problem I encounter above ?  After try in Category name and set those Forum settings.  Clicking submit changes cause the error message: Ermm

ADODB.Recordset error '800a0cc1'
Item cannot be found in the collection corresponding to the requested name or ordinal.
/forum/admin/forum_details.asp, line 171

Do the full version has Username Disallow Control ? Stern Smile

The reason why allot of hosts are either good support for ASP or PHP, is that ASP runs well on Windows web servers and PHP runs well on Unix servers.

ASP is written by MS and although you can get ASP support on Unix systems through 3rd party software they often lack all the fetaures of ASP on Windows IIS.

This means that Web Wiz Forums will only run on a Windows IIS web server and not a Unix/Linux web servers.

I have just uploaded another version of the Lite version, if it don't work this time then I'm dumping the Lite version as it is more trouble than it's worth.

There isn't a feature to disallow usernames online, but there is a function that holds usernames that are not allowed if you edit the file, 'functions/functions_common.asp' in the function 'disallowedMemberNames'

Thanks in advance.  I also understood it really hard to make adjust using a cut down version suitable to run on free hosting servers. Confused

You have done a great job for all ASP beginners so far.  I really appreciate your time and effort you spend to give us a better forum. Clap

Looking forward to see v8.0 release soon. Tongue

It has been always one month.  No major problems encounter so far.  The "Lite" version really worked with problem.

Only have some minor problems:

1/ The date display format changed everytime I logon.
e.g. 07-02-05 set as default

Sometimes changed to 07/02/05 or 07 February 2005.
Still don't know how it change itself ?? Confused

Everytime I need to go inside
to reset it again.
Really confuse ?? Confused

2/ Each time edit the content.  Use any account display date always at Edited by xxxxxx on 30 December 1899 at 1:00pm

Still don't know how it happen ?
Why not display current modify date instead ? Confused
Why only display same old date and time ? Cry

1. I'll have to look into it to make sure the date format is not stored in an application variable. I thought it was changed in the Lite version, but trying to maintain a Lite version along side the main version gets very confusing as to what files are updated.

2. 30 December 1899 is the date at which ASP/VB Script starts, if it's returning that date then for some reason it means the date is being feed incorrectly into the system and VB Script is defaulting to it's start date. Often these type of date errors are as a result of LCID settings on the server.

Thanks boRg your explaination.

I agree with you that maintain a Lite version along side the main version really time consuming.  Confused You have done a superb job with this Lite version.  Clap So far no major problems occur.  Only a few minor issues.
