Subject: Show Active Topic Since....

I just started having a problem yesterday.

I am running 7.9, access version, hosted on jodohost.

Ever since yesterday the date shown in the Show Active Topics Since...is somehow reseting too quickly.

Here is what happens.

I will go to the web site and start browsing posts there may be 20-30 new posts.  After I have read a few post I will click on the Active Topic button and everything will be gone.  Well what happens is the time under the Show Active Topic Since has been changed to the current time.

Any idea why this is happening?

Thank you in advance for any help.

I don't quit understand.

In the past I could log onto the site read all the new posts and my "last visit time" used to generate the Show Active Topics Since... would not reset until I closed the browser or became inactive for a while.

There are no cookie problems as far as I can tell.  This is happening to everyone that logs into the web site.

The forum has worked correctly for over a year and just stop working correctly a couple of days ago.  I have made no changes to the web site recently.  It is almost as if it is not detecting that they are still active on the web site.

Any help would be appreciated.

It sounds to me like it is a problem with the session being restarted for some reason and thus resetting the last time you visited the forum.

This could be coursed by a number of different reasons, it could be a server issue, or it could be another application on your site using session.abandon to reset the session for your site.

Many chat room programs use session.abandon, so if you have installed such software or any other application recently check that it is not that, which is coursing the problem.

Borg,

Thanks for the reply.

I do not have any other applications running on the web site.  The website is simple and consists of a couple of static pages and the message board.  I have made no changes to the web site recently and it just up and stopped working correctly.  Is there anything on the server I could ask Jodo to look into?

Thanks again.

It sounds then that the server keeps resetting or dropping the session for whatever reason, maybe worth asking your host to look into this.

Okay,

I have contacted Jodohost and they are no help, but said they are open to suggestions.  Is there anything I could ask them to look into to find out why the sessions keep resetting, or is there something I can do to try and track down the problem.

Thanks again for all your help.

are you oin Win7 or win8 if you are on either of them. they are the new windows 2003 servers. which has a problem with session timouts..

to fix this you need jodohost to transfer you to a win 2000 server (win 1 - 6)

Hi, I am getting exactly the same problem just as randomly - having spent weeks running through the code, the only logical answer is that the session is being terminated prematurely.
I moved from my last host (that had the problem), to a new host (that also has the problem) - they are both Windows 2003 sites and don't support Windows 2000 servers.

Can anyone help with more information on why the session operates differently on Win2003 servers, or an alternative way of keeping track of users and last visit dates ?
