folks, how can i speed up SQL queries? Or rather the stored procedures? It takes so long to run some searches that the server gives up and times out. Is fine with subjects, its just the Message Body searches i cant do in all forums.

Using MS SQL
100k posts
2500 topics
28 forums

Indexes are all set up. Anyone know any way to make them faster???

I planning on completly re-writting some of the pages that are slow for version 8 in the next couple of days, particully the search and the default.asp page.

So hopefully in the next version there won't be any of these problems.

I've just finshed integrating version 3 of the RTE into the forum, which has taken me the best part of 11 hours, which I am currently testing on this site.

If anyone notices any problems with posting in the editor please le me know.

Also I've just read that you maybe using version 6.34, you should consider upgrading to version 7.9 as I have done allot to improve performance since version 6.34

-boRg- he is on v6.34

V3 RTE is cool.. looked weird when i first looked at it and thought is that changed Clap.. how hard was it to intergrate. i know 11 hours but code wise.. etc..

i think he is trying to get to V7.9.

are you planning on making access upgrade scripts again? i wont need it but i can already hear them calling ..lol

bruce i may have a mod you may want to add.

you may have heard of it... it is a where are my users MOD .. it tells you where everyone is .. it adds 2 fields to an array, and then can tell by the url (thats taken ) .. where you are. the only 2 places it uses queries is if you are within a forum or in a thread.

it can tell if your registering etc. and also dooesn't update if on the RTE pages. and others. i have made it so it by passes any queries if its you that is the row in the array.

also tells you how m,any are within the forum, using the 2 field in the array. and also allows for annominous viewing. but counts you..

if you want to see if you can see it at

http://www.fgcboard.ath.cx/active_users.asp
and
http:/www.support.emagine-hosts.com

if you want the latest version to look over.. i have it zipped on the desktop.. might be worth adding .., even if you want to allow a on off switch.

emagine site isn't very popular t present..

keep up the good work .. oo and have a rest also..Clap

sorry for the long post.

It wasn't overly hard to integrate Web Wiz RTE version 3, but I did make a few modifications to the RTE to make it simpler to integrate along the way.

The biggest problem is with forum permissions for things like uploading, so allot of modifications need to be made there.

I also need to alter the forum pages quite allot as the old RTE was really embedded into the forum.

I am planning on adding allot more to the active users part, as it uses application variables it can hold a reasonable amount without compromising performance.

I would be interested in looking at it.

hi -boRg-

heres the URL for the MOD, V1.3 (not released yet). but i think its ok .. just a few final checks

http://www.emagine-hosts.com/Where_Are_Your_Visitors_SQL.zip

the differences between the Access and SQL versions it the connections etc from the orginal code. the MOD doesn't have server spacific queries. (in its current version that is).

it also checks whos in a forum (shows on the main page , x viewing forum. same with topics. etc.)..

i was gonig to PM you but theres an error on the http://forums.webwiz.net/pm_new_message_form.asp file

Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0126'

Include file not found

/wwf_forum/pm_new_message_form.asp, line 269

The include file 'includes/RTE_message_form_inc.asp' was not found.

have you updated that page yet!

if you have any questions feel free to PM me.

the files in the zip are the only files that have been edited. one way or another.

there is a veriable in the common.asp that would go in the Admin area/database field that maps the forum..

any ideas on what i can do to speed up SQL searching???

Cant upgrade to any other version, not an option mate.  Just wanna speed up what i already got.

Borg, if ur doing it in V8 mate then can u tell me what difference there is between the 2?  Surely u cant get faster than a stored procedure ran on the SQL server???
