My hosting company requires the database with the free forums to be placed within a database folder separate from the database folder within the free forums.  How do I create a DSN to point to the new folder, if that's what I need to do?

Please somebody help!

Thanks,
Nate

The instructions that come with the forum illustrate how to relocate the db.

For a dsn-less connection, you basically specify the physical path - e.g. D:\hosting\myaccount\db~~~

For a DSN connection, your host will have a function in your control panel for creating dsn's and specifying the path to the db. If they don't, you will need to submit a trouble tiket to them to have them create one. The db must already exist on the host for them to create a dsn to it.

Also, I'd recommend using the physical pathway (dsn-less) as dypers suggested. DSN connections make a registry call each time which is a slight performance hit over a dsn-less connection. Of course, the database folder needs to be located above root or have web/browse access disabled if below root and using the dsn-less connection.

If you need a script that will tell you the physical pathway, send me an email and I'll see if I can help you out.

Appreciate the help!  Got the DSN setup with the hosting company, but I may try the dsn-less connection.  Thanks again!
