Subject: Email Problem with User Name

Hi,

We have a member (they are a member of staff) and when they set-up watches on topics I have noticed that the email is sent to an incorrect email address (we have a catch all on our email system).

The User name contains <username> so has < and > either side. When an email is sent to them it appends the user name to the front of the email address.

Is this just a problem with the code in WWF and so I should get them to change the user name?

The username appended to the front is correct.

The problem sounds like this user has an incorrect email address, the email account no-longer exsists, or they have put in an incorrect or badly formatted email address.

The returned email will probally give you the reason why the email has bounced.

The fact that the email is bounced is not the fault of the forum code as their is no way of checking of the email address is OK.

The best thing you can do is to either edit the members profile and remove the email address, or through the editing of the members profile delete any email subscriptions they have.

But bounced emails are common, this site gets 100's, so I would suggest not having a catch all email account for the forums email address domain.

Hi,
I have checked this user again as it is a member of our staff.

In hi profile his user name is

<DOZ>

and he email address is

mailto:Domini@ourdomain.co.uk - Domini@ourdomain.co.uk

When emails are sent to him I get them because they are sent to mailto:dozdominic@ourdomain.co.uk - dozdominic@ourdomain.co.uk

I can not believe that is correct behaviiour?

Some email components can use <> to indicate the name in an email.

It could be this that is coursing the problem.

Future versions of the forum will have checks done so certain characters  co not be used.
