Hi all,

I am considering installing a personal firewall on my PC. Does anyone know of and recomend any free personal firewalls?

Sygate personal firewall is quite good for the price (it's free)

I have tried Sygate but it wont install correctly on my PC for some reason. Any others worth a look?

That may be because you havent rebooted after install or you havent turned off the built in firewall.

Try zonealarm but I have always had problems with it!

IMHO ZoneAlarm sucks, it slows your PC down to a halt and crashes... Sticking a antivirus scanner in there aswell made it even slower

I rebooted after install alright. I was not aware of the built in firewall. I am using MS Win XP Home edition, does this contain such?

When i installed sygate and attempted to open/run it, nothing happended, PC didnt hang or anything.

If you have SP2 installed it is most likely that the built in firewall is turned on

I do have SP2 installed. Would the firewall that comes with this be sufficent or should I go about installing a seperate personal firewall and turn this one off?

For most people the SP2 firewall should be quite ok.
