Can anyone advise me on the best service I can subscribe to that allows me to accept CC payments? The thing is most I find seem to charge 40p, 20p or something like that per transaction, as well as a % on top. Some things I am selling are as cheap as 66p so this is not ideal! |

payquake is good for under $700-$800 (US) in sales. Over that, eonlinedata or 2co are popular. You may get a better deal going through your bank if they're geared to small businesses. Many hosts also have arrangments with cc processors so their clients get a discount.
A common experiece is that sales increase dramatically when you go from paypal to cc payments so basing an estimate of your cc charges upon paypal sales won't be to useful. Of course, if your viewing population is to young to have cc's, paypal will be king. -------------

2checkout.com is good to a point. However, after a certain point the
transaction fees coupled with a the 5.5% will be a killer. Plus, they
only pay on a 2 week schedule unless they grant you a weekly release so
cash flow can be a factor. PayPal is great unless you want a "true merchant" account. It's hard to beat 3.25% with no additional fees, and PayPal does not require an account so you can take credit cards using it. Plus, you have instant access to the funds except the ACH time to send it to your bank, or you can get a MasterCard debit card. There are a ton of naysayers out there with any processor; however, I have run thousands of dollars through my PayPal with virtually zero issues. Other than those, your best best is something like Authorize.net or your local bank if they offer IMA's (Internet Merchant Accounts). Then you'll need a gateway script for them as well. I use WorldPay, http://www.worldpay.com - www.worldpay.com , for online credit card payments. The problem is that they will all charge as the credit cards will charge them. I've used a few different systems and wired up things from scratch,
i.e. I've got a few variables to pass to a payment gateway and that's
it. By far the best I've used so far are some of the Korean payment gateways. They offer unlimited flexibility and just plain rock. Fees are cheap and they just work. I don't think that helps though... It is rarely worth paying more than 4 or 5%. Something like RegNow actually offers decent value because they have other services and a large group of affiliates that will sell for you. But they are just for software, and 15%. Paypal is cheap, but limited. One of the largest and quite good is Paygate.net. However, remember that most Korean companies simply don't understand that there are people who are not Korean that have money that they can give to them - i.e. Korean online businesses are sometimes only available to Koreans or Korean businesses. (An eternal source of frustration here, that I could rant on for hours...) But, that being said, they are very worth checking out. Paygate.net has a number of resellers that often have better rates than Paygate. Do you have anyone that can read Korean? I didn't have any problems because I can, but I haven't seen any with English documentation. If you can get in touch with them, I may be able to dig out old code or some of my translations if they are still around. Really, you only need the variables and everything else is simple. Don't know about Korea, but in many countries you need to have a bank account with one of their banks and sometimes need a local business presence. -------------
