Actually, the admin function succeeds to the point that the original (old) db is deleted. That is, the backup is created, the -tmp is created, and the -tmp is compacted.
The next step is delete the old db. But, the delete function fails with a 'permission denied' message.
Any help in troubleshooting, or otherwise clearing the problem is appreciated.

If you've already checked with your isp to ensure that the directory has acd permissions, you might want to stop/lock the db in the admin section before doing a commpact and repair. Wait a minute or two afer locking it for any user activity to clear.
Also, check that the .lck file is delete-able. -------------
