One of my regular users is locked out of all discussions, although she is logged into the forum successfully.

Looking at the Forum Members list, I see that where everyone else is in a Group with gold stars, her Group has five grey stars. I can't click on her username to get any info. What do the grey stars mean?

grey stars mean that the account is a guest account.

this can be because the account has been dis actived by a Moderator/admin or the email address needs to be re verified if that function is enabled within the forum.

you need to loginto the admin area and select the members details in question. then set the acount status to Active, that should work.. or the account has been put in the guest account group that has no privelages,.

either way do the above and check what group they are in and if the account is active (you need to look in the Admin/Moderator functions iwithin the Users CP menu that is accessed either by clicking edit members profile when clicking the user in question to view the profile OR though the admin area as stated above.
