Hi,

I'm a newbie to RTE. Have some strange things happening.  Hopefully someone can help.

[1.]   Have a textarea field (database entry) that currently shows on my website ok - it shows the heading then gives me a clear paragraph before my textarea text is shown.  When I use RTE and create some words in bold (not in HMTL Mode of the editor), I look back at my live site and the text from the textarea now looks like there is a double paragraph between my static Heading and the database text.  Why would this happen.  This happens in Mozilla and IE (latest versions).  In IE, I go to HTML mode and it seems to then show the correct result on my website.  However, in Firefox, the whole browser shuts down.

[2] When I use RTE, if I want to create a paragraph, I position the curso before the word then hit enter twice to drop it down.  When I update, instead of <BR> or <p> tags, I get <DIV> tags wrap around to create paragraphs but these look like double paragraphs.

[3]  When I bold something, I am getting <b> tags sometimes and <strong> tags at other times.  I'm confused.

The anwser to all your questions is that the RTE uses the built in API's of the browser for the editor, so it is your browser that creates the HTML.

Mincrosoft and Mozilla have implemented their API's for page editing in different ways and so create diffrent HTML, with IE creating very bad HTML (like most MS products) and Mozilla creating much better, cleaner HTML.

If RTE uses the browser API's, then I assume most other wysiwyg editors do this as well. If this is true, then why do most wysiwyg editors insert a <p> tag when enter is pressed where as Web Wiz usually inserts a <div> or some other tag when enter is pressed.  This is the main reason my company decided to purchase RTE - when you press enter in RTE, the curser usually goes down 1 line wheras when you press enter in other wysiwyg editors, the cursor usually goes down 2 lines.

What I'm gettting at here is there seems to be some user interface customizations that are not normal to RTE that make superior to a lot of other wysiwyg editors.  And there are some things about the interface that I'd like to change.

For example, when typing a continuous string (no blank spaces), and the length of the string goes beyond the width of the textarea, the size of the text area is expanded and scroll bars appear.  Instead, we would like the text to automatically break to the next line when it gets too long.  Is this possible, or are we just limited to whatever the behavior is of the browser's API?
