hiya guys

I've finally got both 2 forums running.
Both databases are in a private. but for some reason when users come online on the forum it looks like they are online on the new forum. (Active users). How can i make it so both forums are apart from each other with no cross users?

the new forum does'nt even have any members and its showing up active users from the old forum?

www.pwcforums.co.uk/wiz        old forum
www.pwcforums.co.uk/wiz2      New forum

Cheers
Jack

you have to put the second forum within its own application pool, or turn off application veriables and active users.

this is because they are sharing the same veriables.

you need ot put them within their own pools or seperate domains, or turn them off within one of them.

when you say they need to be in there own pools do you mean if i put both DB in 2 seperate folders in the private section of the server?

Oris it picing up active users up over the whole site?

each website, directory are put into application pools.

ussually the whole site is in its own pool, on free hosts and others you share pools with other users.

but as yours is paid hosting?

each domain is within its own pool i would say

so both forums are using the same verialbes/config and also the same active users application array.

so to sort this you need ot put the second forum within its own pool, turn off those features within the common.asp files and/or see if your host can put the second forum within its own application pool

I'll turn them off i think on the second forum for know

Yer i do pay for the hosting so i might ring them up and ask them if they can create another application pool for another forum.

You could also put one/both of them in a subdomain. Subdomains HAVE THEIR OWN POOLS.

i've talked to the server people and they can't help me with another application pool. there where scurting around the subject really.Angry

why is it that if u compare the 2 forums 1 has 8 members on and the other has 13? is that something to do with the time diffrence or summat?

I cant even log into it because its got my cookies from the other forum i think.

as dypers said the only other way is to put them within their own sub domains.

ifyou have disabled the active users and application veriables within one of the forums.
then it looks like you haven't change the cookie nbame for the second forum.

thats why its using the same cookies, within the common.asp files you need to change the cookie values to somethingelse .. so they are different to forum2

Try going the subdomain route.

I only have one private folder so i'm not to sure what you mean buy putting them in subdomaines. unless you mean getting another private folder.

within the common.asp files of one of the forums you will find strCookieName = "WWF"

change that within both common.asp's within one of the forums to something else , doesn't matter what.

if your private database is above the root folder of your domain, you maybe able to create a sub domain and link to the same folder thats outside of the roots.

who is your host?

Most webhosts allow you to have subdomains in addition to domains.
A domain would be www.mydomain.com
A subdomain would be forum1.mydomain.com

oh i see what you mean. so one forum could be pwcforums.co.uk
and the other cold be web.pwcforums.co.uk. so there would be a a new private file in the sub domain. i'll ring them and ask

i'm with fast hosts at the moment

Cheers for all your help guys.
