Hi all,

Some of our forum members are wingeing about the fact that the search functions of our webwiz forum are too basic Ouch and they want something more advanced (I think they are using this as an excuse, because they may be too lazy to search for something LOL).

To try and appease them Clown, I was wondering - is there any way of adding more advanced search features/criteria? Like maybe searching within a post? Or being able to narrow the search down by date? Is there any boolean logic etc?

BTW: are there any related mods that can be installed?

Many thanks Wink

searching within a post is able to be done at present,

i mean you can select to look within the messages within a search.

the narrow down of search results isn't integrated but maybe do able, not 100% sure is that easy, unless you filter once then filter that again.

you can search on all, and or phrase, and look within a certain forum, and change the order, but that's it in the present version, i think boRg was saying he will look into re writing it, so maybe add more features but not guarantee

when using " " within google it uses the phrase option thats in the forum function.

so by clicking that it uses the phrase not the OR veriabl;e

Ah yes, but I was thinking of something a little more sophisticated, so it would allow you to jump to the match within the message rather than make you scroll through many (sometimes hundreds) of posts.

Filtering post-search would be an excellent feature - especially when you get many returned topics.

That would be great if boRg could add some more functionality Smile.

I was wondering how easy it would be to add some of the features found in php forums etc.

Yes, but google is more sophisticated with it's search queries - you can specify certain words, exclude others and use phrases all within a single search (in other words a combination).

I suppose I was hoping that someone had already added some extra features by modding the source code.

PS: As this is a moderated forum, does that mean that someone has to manually inspect every single post made (apart from those originating from moderators)? That's a lot of work for someone Geek.

the moderators and boRg verify any post made within the Web wiz guide support category, (excludng sub forums)

there are a few of us that do so, and manage it fine i think.

i'm sure this post/thread will be looked at regarding V8, but for server perforance etc im not sure what parts could be added.
