The new version of Windows, which is currectly Codename Longhorn is going to be called Vista.

The announcement will go live at 6AM PST http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2005/jul05/07-22LHMA.mspx - here.

Proof was found at http://bink.nu/Article4551.bink - bink.nu when they researched some domain names.

However the name could be changed again before it RTMs

Possible both. The name just does not appeal but I could care less and just call it Windows 6 or whatever, the version remains to be seen, they have some features hardly critizised by the communities like it requiring certain standard monitors to play protected content, so if you still have some old VGA monitor (old as in VGA connection and not DVI or HDMI) that does not support HDCP protection it may not play certain content or downgrade it to a lesser resolution.

Also, Indigo is now WCF (Windows Communication Foundation)
Avalon is WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation)

I don't blame them for dropping old hardware support. Sooner or later you've got to take the leap or we'd all be running vido designed for 4 color monitors or designing web sites using "web safe" colors that only mean anything on 256 color monitors.

Agreed - people need to just upgrade if they need anything more. I'm sure I'm not the only one that hates when users have old systems...

Well was not so much about old systems but about forcing HDCP on a cuser. But oh well....

I actually got Vista installed on Virtual PC last friday and I must say, that I am very impressed so far. I like it how they changed the programs menu and Explorer got a nice touch-up though still just one source location Unhappy. And so far it has not even crashed on me Tongue

I disagree, but I do agree Vista sounds more like a home OS. Same they did with Windows Millenium, it just did not have Business Potential by it's name. Either way, you can just call it Windows 6.0 or whatever the ver is gonna be.

Is there any particular reason a developer would want to migrate to Vista?
