So, I have a nice new application all completed. Its written in ASP.NET 2.0/VB.NET using Visual Web Developer Express. The back-end database is SQL Server 2005 Express. Now, my dilemma. Microsoft hasn't given a go-live license of SQL Server 2005 (full) and no one wants to run 2005 Express on shared hosting. So, here is my application with nowhere to go. How I wish I had an extra grand to drop into a high-speed line, server, and Windows 2003 so that I could run this thing. But for the time being it looks like I am left waiting for Microsoft to decide to release SQL Server 2005 Go-Live license, hopefully before the Nov. 7th RTM.
Pahhh.

This is truly a dilemma. I have a completed asp.net Gallery Application with Membership provider and a bunch of CLR SP's ready to go, but there is no host that is running 2k5 Server so I too have to wait to abandon Community Server for my personal Gallery site.

Sorry to hear you are having the same problem as well...But glad I at least have company. I can't understand why Microsoft isn't releasing a Go-Live license for SQL Server 2005? I have heard that OrcsWeb has SQL Server 2005 Express running but that there is no remote admin.

Hosting.Com (www.hosting.com/aspnet2.0/) is now offering ASP.NET 2.0 and SQL Server 2005 hosting! It looks like it is SQL Server Express since SQL Server 2005 still hasn't been given a go-live license, but in any case - here is what we needed.
I'll let you know how it goes.
David.

I've got .net 2.0, VS2005, and SQL Server2005 on a separate machine. I wanted to move them to my main development machine but can't find any compatibility info.
Can they co-exist with .net 1.1, VS2003, and SQL Server 2000?

Mmmphh. I don't have anything definite on that. But I am pretty sure I have read a couple articles on the difficulty of placing SQL Server 2005 on the same machine with 2000. I have 1.1 and 2.0 on my machine, and haven't had any problems...Don't know about VS2003/5, I figure that would probably be the one most unlikely to cause problems.

Yes, they can all co-exist happily. .net 2.0 installs as a seperate version and only handles apps compiled against 2.0. You can use a different instance name for SQL Server 2005 which allows you to have 2 servers on the same box. and VS just sits along side the other

I would recommend though to install SQL 2005 as the default instance and 2000 as a named instance. Especially if you want to use Analysis Services, it makes it simpler.
