I just saw that my webserver is down!
Yesterday I installed ICQ just to see what's it like and after I made unistall and restarted my computer webserver didn't work!

I get this error all the time in IE or FF!
Quote

Server Application Error

The server has encountered an error while loading an application during the processing of your request. Please refer to the event log for more detail information. Please contact the server administrator for assistance.

The thing is that only html pages are working but not .asp!
I have searched on web and have seen that  ICQ was the problem why webserver is not working properly! I guess some files were deleted when unistalling ICQ but which onesConfused??

I tried to unistall IIS and reinstall it but same problem occur!
So, is there any way to fix it or there is nothing else to do but to reinstall windows??Confused Which I just did week agoConfusedConfused

Turn on the verbose error messages on the server to get a more precise error message to search MSDN.

You can probably re-install one MS patch to get the missing file back.

What OS are you running?  What version of IIS?  Do VBScripts works?

I have XP and  IIS 5.1.

VBScripts don't work!

I get http 500 Internal server error!

uncheck "show friendly http error messages" in tools > internet options > advanced, so you can see what the real error is. error 500 is just a generic smokescreen for all other errors.

Don't install this kind of applications in your production web server, the less with mess with it, the less problems you get.

Try to install ICQ again, to see if your web server is fixed, then do a custom uninstall and check only the files to be deleted that you know are not part of Windows or the web server.

I reinstalled ICQ and same think is happening. It simply can't find .asp pages like they're not there!
Also when unistalling I did custom unistall and it's still not working.

So i guess I'll have to reinstall windows again! Probably only way Disapprove to fix it!

Did you install any more software on your web server, like Norton Anti-Virus?

No. ICQ was the only software which I installed! Before that everything was working!
The thing is that even when I unistalled ICQ the webserver was working! But when I restarted computer the problem occur!

First the message was that some other program is using same port as webserver which was the cause why IIS didn't work, but then I chagne the port and managed to start IIS but still I have received same error.

Then I have change the port to the original and IIS did run and only html pages were possible to see in IE or FF.

As I was reading other forums they have mentioned that when they installed ICQ they had problems with com+( Same problem as I'm having ).
They even had a readme/help file  how to fix it and I did that but no success.

Right, you said you already uninstalled/installed IIS, do that again but restart in btw operations > uninstall > restart > install.

Do you have any metabase backups?
Can you do a system restore?
What Windows is it?
