hi, i am now dtg an application and sql server 2000 is used.i am supposed to count the number of entries and i set up a 'postID' in the database with type Int.

I wanna ask that the length of the type Int in sql server 2k is only 4. so is tehre any way to solve the 'overflow ' issue when the number of entries is more than length of 4, ie >9999?

thanks!

4 does not relate to the number of digits. Int can hold anything from -2,147,483,648 to +2,147,483,647
As I guess you started at 0 or 1 as most people do, you still have over 2 billion entries for your db before you get an overflow.
The 4 relates to bytes, as it is a 4 byte length integer
