I moved my 2 forums from a Windows 2000 Server machine to another one
on my network running Windows 2003 Server. On one forum, the ability to
upload avatars no longer works. I tried changing from AspSmartUpload to
Persits AspUpload and got the same error. The error code reported is:
----------------------------------------
Server object error 'ASP 0177 : 800401f3'
Server.CreateObject Failed
/functions/functions_upload.asp, line 108
800401f3
-----------------------------------------
Does anyone know what this refers to and how to correct it? I'm
thinking it is a permissions problem but already have the IUSR account
set for write permission in the functions folder & files.
On the other forum, the security images show up as broken or missing
images when new users try to register. I'd like to fix that too, but
don't have an error code to provide. The images just don't show up.
I'm using version 7.9 and am going to install the security patch right after posting this.
Thanks!

make sure the components are on the server and that the folders you are
uploading ot has read/write and modify permissions on it.
and make sure the path is correct.

If the component works for one forum but not the other one, I'd suspect
that one/more of the asp files got corrupted when you copied it over.
You might try re-uploading upload.asp or copy it from the forum that
works.
For the security images, IIRC, you have to have a new-ish version of mdac and need to have adostreaming enabled.
