Hey guys,

Just wanted to ask you something.

If you have a forum when do you bann users? Right away ( without warning ) if he makes a post where he's swearing, offeding others, or do you first send him a PM to warn him?

Reason why I'm asking you is that I was banned from one forum ( non related to this 1 ), where I only asked a question:
Do you have a problem with that?
I was reffering to his previous post.
He was a site admin that I was reffering to, so I got banned right away.

Also thing is that even though I also have a forum on my site I only banned 1 user so far and only cuz he was offending others , swearing all the time, etc...
Otherwise I always send a PM to a user and warn him about his posts and that in future he/she can be banned.

Anyway would appreciate your advise or thoughts

Some admins are heavy handed and some are not.  I try not to be heavy handed, but I don't allow people to create problems either.

I almost got banned from one forum simply because I didn't realize I had a PM warning me!  He didn't want me to link to my website as he considered it competition.  I complied, but if I hadn't read the PM in time, I would have been permanently banned.

I prefer issuing temporary bans instead of permanent bans, unless they are really out of control.  But I usually can talk some sense to them and get them to behave.

But in the end, its like house rules.  In my house, its my rules.  Its the same with forums.  And people feel more welcome in certain forums than others as a result.

Create the atmosphere you want in your forum.  After all, its your forum. Smile
