I dont know much about this subject. But i dont think you can get a component as such, such as a send mail component. i say this because you will need to send the text messages through an SMS gateway. All the companies that i have looked at charge at least 5 pence per message. Obviously the companies supplying the gateway supply you with all the code you would need for users to send messages or some of them will have a generic page that you would have to direct users, to send the messages.

I know that I will have to pay for the transmission of the SMS message itself (5p/10p). What I need is a component that I can use to handle the sending from a server using the GSM modem.

In detail, I have an intranet based phone directory containing all our employees mobile numbers. I want to be able to select an employee, type in a message and send it to their mobile (using the GSM modem attached to the IIS server).

I don't know what service provider your employees use but I am sure that GSM phones in the UK also have an email address like mailto:5551234567@mobile.provider.com - 5551234567@mobile.provider.com   something to that affect anyway. This way you don't need a modem to send the messages. At least here it is statndard having an email address and I know Europe is much more advanced in GSM technology.
