I am creating a page that lets users join a team. Only when they join the team their request must be confirmed by that teams captain. What I am looking for is a best method for this.

I initally thought of just storing the users info in a temp database until the team captain logs on and confirms and then just transfer the info to the real database. Is this the best way? thanks for any ideas

you could have a bit/yes no field that is changed to confirmed. then they can do what ever you want them to be able to do.

but do a check on the status.. sort of a active/ not active feature.

having a 'probationary user' yes/no field in the database and changing that from yes to no (or vv) when they are accepted would be infinitely simpler and quicker than moving their record from another database.
