Hello,

I have downloaded the new version of the forums.

I have a few questions with regard to the setup:

I am asked to enter:

1) Database name set up by you on the server

and

2) Empty Database set up by you on the SQL Server

Now my questions are:

Is the Database name 'wwForum'? Or something else?

Is the emply database folder, one that I create? and if so, where do I create it ?

Do I log into my FTP account and create and empty folder called, for example, "myDatabase" ?

Please advise

Thanks

Asad Raza

It appears you have downloaded the SQL Server version. If your host provides SQL Server he will also provide a database name and login information for you. If there is no SQL Server included in your account, please download the MS Access Version and follow the instruction to secure your database.

Hi

I found all the info, and I entered it in the 'SQL_server_connection.asp'  file, as follows:

'Enter the details of your SQL server below
strSQLServerName = "216.153.93.6" 'Holds the name of the SQL Server
strSQLDBUserName = "newusercm" 'Holds the user name (for SQL Server Authentication)
strSQLDBPassword = "asad8raz" 'Holds the password (for SQL Server Authentication)
strSQLDBName = "caribbeanmedempty"     'Holds name of a database on the server

Am I entering this info correctly? Meaning, do I type in the info in between the quotations?

Because after I uploaded this file and tried to run the file 'msSQL_server_setup.asp'

It does not work. You can see, if you go here:

http://www.caribbeanmedicine.com/forum/msSQL_server_setup.asp - http://www.caribbeanmedicine.com/forum/msSQL_server_setup.asp

and enter

SQL Server Username: newusercm
SQL Server Password: asad8raz

It says:

Error Connecting to database on SQL Server

Check the following is set up and correct:-

SQL Server User Name
SQL Server Password
Name of the SQL Server
Database name set up by you on the server
Empty Database set up by you on the SQL Server

Check also that you have entered the correct details in the file 'SQL_server_connection.asp' found in the admin directory.

What do I do?

Please advise, thank you

Greetings!

I too am having the same issues.  As a general comment it appears that you have entered the information correcly.

However, the line, strSQLServerName = "216.153.93.6" 'Holds the name of the SQL Server may not be valid since it needs to refer to the NetBIOS name of the server.  I am not sure that an IP Address will work.   For example, when I installed my operating systems (Windows 2003 server) I was given the option to give my computer a name.  I named it "MAIN".  If you are having yourforum hosted, I think you will need to know the server name provded by you ISP host.  You may need to ask them this.

The other issues seem related to the SQL server.  The "administrator" and password, "letmein" seem like they should work but do not -- at least in my case.  I had to use the "sa" account from when I set up the SQL Server.  Otherwise, the following occurs when I run the msSQL_server_setup.ASP file via the browser:

Error Connecting to database on SQL Server

Check the following is set up and correct:-

SQL Server User Name
SQL Server Password
Name of the SQL Server
Database name set up by you on the server
Empty Database set up by you on the SQL Server

Check also that you have entered the correct details in the file 'SQL_server_connection.asp' found in the admin directory.

So, once i got the ASP file to run and create the database tables, I now have an issue in getting logged into the Forum so that I can do the administration I need for users etc.

Can the information in the SQL_server_connection.asp file be  removed after the SQL setup is done? I don't really like having that info in a file available to someone that might be into trying to use it for undocumented purposes.

The file can not be removed, but as it is an ASP file it can't be downloaded by a hacker unless they got FTP access to your site.
