How can I record an IP address from someone that is registering at my board before they actually make a post?

I have one of your board members (Identifying himself as a WWF member) who keeps signing up and using the email address field as his own grandstand to complain about the questions I ask here. I need to be able to lock him out, or at least identify him so I can go pound his ass into the asphalt.

I came here, I downloaded this board and I support it. But I am getting tired of people telling me that I am stupid because I can't figure something out, or mad at me because I didn't have the time to look through 8 bazillion posts for an answer to a question that just about everyone here could very easily answer. I am sorry that I don't have asp in my brain as a second language!

I just paid $80 bucks to one guy for a portal to wrap around my forum only to find out his crap doesn't have a single shred of usable installation instructions. Probably never see that dough again.

If you guys don't want people like me to use your board or buy it or support it, then you need to put a BIG SIGN on the login page that reads.

GEEKS ONLY!,
ALL OTHERS, YOU ARE NOT WELCOME HERE. GET LOST!

At least we'd know where we stand.

Unlike the spammers that attack my board, I am more than willing to identify myself. If you don't like my attitude, call me up, I'll be glad to meet you anywhere you want for lunch and a fist sandwich!

God damned punks.

You're lucky to get an answer with that attitude, expecting people to help you after you call them geeks and make other sarcastic remarks.

Also, WWG is not affiliated directly with any portal as far as I know, if you made a bad purchase, tough.  You should of looked into it more before you bought it.  That's not our problem at all.

WWG also offers email support at £25 a year.  Buy that if your having troubles, otherwise don't expect A+ support from people visiting this site in their spare time.

Anyway, in regards to your question.  You would probably want a new field called 'IP' in the members table, called tbl_Author or something simliar.  Then when they sign up, insert their IP address when the new membership record is created.  You can update this value everytime they login.

A better way may be to create an entirely new IP table.  Two columns, IP and AuthorID, when someone logs in add the record to the table if it doesn't exist, this way you can collect multiple IP's from a single user if they login from a few machines.

Anyways, WWF has an IP ban system, just use that.  His IP should be displayed ontop of the forum post.
