i used both.. prefer MS virtual PC.. nice interface. runs smoother and doest not hog lot of resources..

VMWare is a bit resourceful .. may be by 1-2% but offers a few advanced features..

still VPC wins my vote..

Not sure if you tried Virtual Server. You can embedd the desktop into your own webpages or applications as it's just an ActiveX. Sure needs some beef in the server to run multiple OS's but it's sweet

I would agree that VPC (Microsoft) is much better than VMWARE.

Virtual Server 2005 is AWESOME, you can set up muliple forests and DOMAINS in a Virtual environment etc.

In this case, MIcrosoft wins my vote ....(although strictly speaking Microsoft did not make the original VPC .. it was made by connectix and purchased by MS)... same old story though .. eh TongueTongueTongueTongue

havent tried virtual server yet..i think i have it in my current msdn dvd pack i recieved.. got to check it out.. thought u mind find this funny that msdn mails be about 60 DVDS every month.. that is bcuz single division in microsoft is responsible for middle-east, north-africa and europe. So i recive my MSDN back in not only English US and UK, but also in every major european and middle eastern language like polish, hebrew, german, french, arabic.

talk about the mess now.. the pain of throwing about 55 of 60 DVDs simply bcuz they are in a lauguage i would never plan to operate a computer in next 50 or so years!!!

what do u guys use VPC and VPS for..

i usually fiddle around with unattended / automated installation CD's , some linux distro's , testing images, some software and OS testing, playing with registery and system files, to surf website loaded with spyware and adware,  blah blah.. and i find virtual PC to be quite handy in helping me out...

We get all the languages too and it does make sense. MSDN is for Developers and we need to test out apps on say a Thai OS to make sure it can cope with their scribbles.

I use VPC mainly for beta testing applications, stuff I don't want to put on my production machine and it's more convenient that walking to another computer. I also use it for creating virtual Networks, for example "playing" with SQL and Exchange replication.

i am soo addicted to VPC cuz i can doo  so many things at the same work station without investing anything in hardware. i wish i could scale upto four processor and 4GB of ram so i can seamlessly run about a dozen of virtual machines.. too bad i dont think winxp will support quad processor work station..

but anyway due to my VPC addiction.. i plan to upgrade my PC or buy something more powerful.. lets say AMD Athlon FX**

You certainly can.. I installed the sofware and installed within VPC and it worked ok. I think the official MS answer is that you cannot..

MS is never going to openly support linux and have linux distros offically supported so VMware is better for me!

5.5 beta is great.

Linux works fine in VPC.. I have been running Suse no problem.

Anyone know if Mac OS will work. I dont think so because VPC is PC technology (Intel) anyone know differently ?

There is a version of OSX for x86 floating around that runs on VMWare. The virtual OS X isn't very fast on a 2.8ghz P4, but it does run.

We use MS Virtual server at work, it's very slick but VMWare does perform better on any kind of disk access. Copying files to/from a virtual machine running VMWare is always faster than in a VPC machine in the tests I've run.

VMWare has another advantage - they have a free "player" that allows you to run any VMWare virtual machine.

speaking of windows within windows... have any of you guys ever used radmin? its a fantastic tech-support tool that we use at my work. basically lets you commandeer the computer of your choice (as long as they have the software installed, and have the correct port open and don't have your ip screened)... anyway... never open a radmin connection from comp1 to comp2 then accidentally (or otherwise) open a connection from comp2 to comp1... it gets UGLYLOL
