Subject: Problem with Banned IP addresses

Hi,
I have a problem with the banned ip addresses function on the forums. I have read through the posts and made the changes noted to the function but I am still having the issue. Here is what it is:
I added an IP address of 64.59.53.xx to be blocked (the xx is not * for range blocking but represents the final two numbers in the IP)
When my client tries to post he gets the message that his IP is blocked when his IP is 64.12.116.xxx   ????
What can be the issue? Any help is appreciated.

That's very strange. The bannedip function does a full length, direct comparison when the wildcard is not used, so I don't see how it has become more restrictive.

If you remove 64.59.53.xx, is 64.12.116.xxx still blocked?

How many IP's and wildcard IP ranges do you block?

if i remove 64.59.53.xx the other IP is no longer blocked. as far as IPs and wildcards blocked, that was the only one.

Quite interesting. I have dozens of banned IP's and IP ranges, and have had no such issues, at least to my knowledge. Perhaps you could post just the BannedIP function from your functions_common.asp here so others can see if there is a mistake. Or you could PM it to me and I will gladly review it.

64.12.116.xxx belongs to AOL, and 64.59.53.xx belongs to eLink Communications. If your client posts into the forum (when the latter IP is not blocked), does the IP address positively show up as the former?
