Hi guys,

I bought a new hifi recently, being delivered tommorow.  I couldn't afford a CD player for the hi fi, so opted for using my PC to feed the music.  A sound engineer recommended this soundcard to me:

http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/page/shop/flypage/product_id/3446

So I got it, and it sounds fantastic with my headphones.  Anyway I phoned up the shop I bought my hi fi from, because I need a cable to go from the soundcard to the amp (Cyrus).  They told me that it has no sound outputs or something, and I need a DAC or something, is this true? I'm not very good with hardware matching and stuff.

lol

I spoke to a cable specialist, and he told me that they were telling me that to get them to buy a DAC off them, but i've ordered cabling now and its all good

Tongue

The e-mu is a fantastic card, sound quality from my Hd590's is superb, haven't heard anything in my life so far that comes near this quality.  Highly recommend it!

It comes with a PCI card and breakout box, so both internal and external.

A sound engineer recommended it on drum-world, and I am thoroughly impressed with it!  I was going to get the Creative Xfi, but I was told it's for games only really.

The higher end cards have breakout boxes, if for no other reason than they just can't fit everything into a tiny card slot. Try getting 20 outputs on a regular sound card Wink

Again - a very yummy card~!

I can't stop listening to it, the quality is astounding, can't wait to link to my Cyrus amps and PMC FB1+ speakers!  Have to wait a few more days for those though

Ever heard of Audigy sound cards? :)

They make internal that arnt just a tiny card slot ;)

http://www.audigy.com - http://www.audigy.com

But since i dont know crap about all the different types of sound i dont know how audigy compares to the rest. I know that my Audigy 2 sound card sounds plenty fine for games, music, and dvds at 5.1 and 6.1

Actually - yes - I have heard of them...

But all their better hardware is external. Their 100% internal stuff is at best mid-range. (Given what's available now.)

But to be honest, for serious sound, I would never buy anything from Creative. They just don't have the support that some other manufacturers have.

That being said, I have an Audigy NX because it's "good enough" for what I need most of the time. i.e. 24/96 stereo.  But then that's because it was the only thing inside of the price range that I was willing to pay at the time I bought it that was available here. (South Korea can be pretty pathetic at times when it come to selection... Cry)

For a higher end system, EMU, EgoSys, and Oxygen make some very good hardware. Creative are a bit over priced. They really need to include more comprehensive drivers.

BUT... And this is the thing... Tom and I are both musicians. I think I can safely speak for both of us and say that sound quality is IMPORTANT.

However, I'm quite sure... No, actually, on second thought, I KNOW  that neither Tom nor I can afford the kind of audio systems that we'd like to have...

I'm still a ways away from getting my dream audio system... I want to get an AAC technology patent license first for my users and that is NOT cheap. Cry

EMU has a Creative Profesional logo on the front, not sure if that's because they are EMU or if they put some software in it or something.

Can't wait to try out my new seperates when I get back, will be selling my old ones if anyone is interested!

I swore off Creative a while ago. Way to many "Helper" apps installed that run on boot-up and override the ones I had already installed.

The Sounblaster Xfi Exteme Pro card claims it can make MP3's sound BETTER than their original recording! LOL  What are they talking about!
