your email settings arent correct, make sure the email settings are corrrect and the mail server is correct.

also check if you require emai authentification.

I have changed lines 474-479 in language_file_inc.asp file
and changed these lines. do you think this may have some bearing on the register error?

Const strTxtRegistrationDetails = "Registration Details (required)"
Const strTxtProfileInformation = "Profile Information (not required, but you can fill them in if you think you need practice)"
Const strTxtForumPreferences = "Forum Preferences"
Const strTxtICQNumber = "Favourite Number"
Const strTxtAIMAddress = "Favourite Colour"
Const strTxtMSNMessenger = "Favourite Music"
Const strTxtYahooMessenger = "Favourite Animal"
Const strTxtOccupation = "Your Occupation"
Const strTxtInterests = "Your Interests"

no the issue is with the email settins or no mail server, or requires authentification.

i would say its not the language files

From the jmail FAQ...
jmail.SMTPMail error '8000ffff'
The message was undeliverable. All servers failed to recieve the message

The mailserver(s) you specified either weren't set up to receive emails from your webserver or you didn't enter a valid mailserver. You must enter the full name or IPaddress, you can't just enter the network name of your mailserver. Also, some systems prefer if you specify port, which usually is 25.

Spoke to our IT manager and the College uses Jmail all the way through and there are no problems there.  tried your suggestion within Outgoing SMTP Mail Server settings in the email notification configuration area.  put in full address including http:// etc. tried the IP address also.

The user who registers actually gets registered and the administrator receives notification of the user being registered.

Please help me!!

Does the machine hosting your forum send email by any other ASP script using the same JMail settings?

By what means does the administrator get notification?

when i set it to CDONTS i get this error when posting (the post is actually successful) a post:

Server object error 'ASP 0177 : 800401f3'

Server.CreateObject Failed

/functions/functions_send_mail.asp, line 153

800401f3

when i set it to CDOSYS i get this error when posting (again, the post is actually successful)

CDO.Message.1 error '80040213'

The transport failed to connect to the server.

/functions/functions_send_mail.asp, line 136

Im actually thinking of moving to another free forum because  of this because the people who require it need it very soon.
Many thanks for your help though!
Ali.

yeah sure, sorry that I hadn't.  I will be leaving instructions about removing profile information soon also, still have a very small problem, date and time being stuck 12.00 with the year at 1899. I think it is because I removed "time offset and Date format from the forum preferences, any ideas???

Here is how i fixed:

"Set email component to use: CDOSYS (Win2k/2k3/XP Pro)

Outgoing SMTP Mail Server to localhost (but try leaving it blank, see if it still works)

That was it!

If i am not wrong time offset can be over written within common.asp but that is not the problem you are facing. Anyway try enabling the timeoffset and date fields and then only comment the html code showing these settings. Check lines 1780-1823.

Fixed the timeoffset, it was not in the common.asp it was within the register.asp
I had deleted but did not know that it was alter the server time and date so it is fully working now.

Congratulations Ali. Clap
And I said Time Offset can be overwritten in common.asp, check lines 151-152 to override server time 0ffset.
Where your problem was in register.asp :)
