once the free period is over.. they will start asking the registre for money or else the domain to be returned to the available pool

You're right. I should have mentioned that.
It's like the free .info domains - you get it free for a year and then have to pick up the renewal fee.
I sometimes see posts here from people in Belgium and thought they might be interested.

I would have got the free .be domains if they had allowed you to withold some of your personal address details

They have a facility that allows you to have their contact details
displayed instead of yours. They forward nic mail to your actual email
address but block everything else.
They usually charge $1/year to hide your contact info but there's something on their specials page so you get it for free.
do a whois on dimdog.com for an example
