1.5 uses a new extension format. After you load it, check your installed extensions. The ones that are dimmed are the old format and are inoperative. See page 4 of this thread on the Fx forum for a utility (nightly tester tools) to fix the olf format extensions. (better to check for new versions of the extension though - a lot are being upgraded today) http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=347046&postdays=0&postorder=asc&postsperpage=15&start=45 - http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=347046&postdays=0&postorder=asc&postsperpa ge=15&start=45

Wonderful! Would have posted this my self if I hadn't had an electrical surge which blew the power unit.

Need to buy a surge protector now! LOL

Yes... you should. I ordered a personal UPS/Surge protector for each of the computers in our offices when I ordered the new computers. One thing some people miss is the modem and router in the office. For example, each computer (and telephone) has its own power supply. The modem, router and hub are near the phone junction and on another circuit. By default, these would have not had their own power supply but added one to protect the network. (Besides, a loss of power at the hub is a down network too.)

My point is, if you plug your monitor, cpu and speakers into the surge protector, make sure the other electronic devises on the network are too. (Modems, switches, hubs, printers, scanners etc.)

Just my hard earned advice. Oh... wait... your on 220 European... never mind. LOL

Where do electrical surges come from?  Lighting or something?  Is it ok if your PC is off?

A surge can be cause by a malfunction of another electronic device on the circuit, in the building... even in the neighborhood if powerful enough as well as indirect affects of lightning. What you want for sensitive electronics is a stable power source to prevent damage.

With the PC off, a power surge from lightning can affect your computer... especially a modem. (I've had one fried with the power off.) What I advise people to do with their home PC and no protection is to unplug the computer, monitor and phone line from the wall during a storm. When I was starting out in mu basement, I would unplug 4 computers during severe storms. Kind of a pain let me tell you.

Yes, and TV's Clock Radio's anything that plugs into a wall... though circuit cards and micro electronics are most susceptible to slight voltage fluctuations.

It stops crashing for me when I quit the browser!

The auto updater thing you will notice when they release updates I guess.  Seems to load a tad faster.

Most of the changes are under the hood. The overview list is at http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/Firefox_1.5_Beta_for_Developers - http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/Firefox_1.5_Beta_for_Developers

At the bottom of the page is a link to the comprehensive list.

re: what df was saying bout phone lines etc in storms: if you're going to get a ups, pay the little bit extra for one that you can run your phone line (DSL, etc) through, cos otherwise you're not really protected...
