Im having major problems. Email activation is simply inconsistant and not reliable, and from searching the forums it seems Im not the only one.

Out of 40 members Ive had almost half email me and complain of not being able to login due to having not recieved the activation email. Ive tried CDONTS, CDOSYS, and ASPMAIL.

ASPMAIL appeared to function the best so I decided to go with it - however Im cotinually getting delivery errors. See below...

Could not deliver message to the following recipient(s):

Failed Recipient: mailto:*******@hotmail.com - *******@hotmail.com
Reason: Remote host said: 550 Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable

As you can imagine this is proving EXTREMELY frustrating. I have been assured by my hosts that the problem is definitely not at their end. I have also carried out some testing at my end using simple asp scripts that send mail immediately without any problems.

It seems this definitely needs attention!!!!!

I NEED SOME ANSWERS ON THIS ASAP!!!

John

make sure the setting are correct, also check if your mail server IP address is on the span block list www.dnsstuff.com

check if your email authentifiucation is set and / or required by your host

This indicates that the destination server was reached and specifically refused to talk to your server.  The possible reasons are many.  1. If you mail server (IP or name) appears to be sending above normal volumes of email or appears to be sending spam, the email server could reject the connection.  2.  The destination mailbox could be full or deactivated or doesn't exist.  3.  Your SPF records could be messed up.  And many other reasons.  But it is the destination server denying the connection.

Can you see any patterns in the domains that aren't getting their emails?  Is there any domain that fails 100% of the time.  Is there any domain that never fails?  If they do not get the registration email, might they get a "forgotten password" email, or a PM email?

Do your test ASP scripts send to the same recipient email addresses that fail?  From the same sender email addresses?  Did you build your test script to be a replica of the jmail portion of the registration script?  Have you tried them both as HTML and Plain Text?

Ok ive checked just about everything here twice, three times infact. Hopefully I havent missed anything.

Firstly I ran a check against the mail server at dnsstuff.com

The mail server is not listed as spam and does not appear on the blocked list - 216.119.106.29 so this should be fine.

Heres my mail setup. Looks ok to me? Im still getting delivery error messages. Im having to go into the db and set active to 1 manually.
